The MSc in Language and Intercultural Communication is an interdisciplinary degree programme that provides a critical, practical and globally informed understanding of language and intercultural communication across a wide range of professional and social contexts.
The programme is founded on the view that effective intercultural communication is increasingly important in diverse multilingual and multicultural societies, international workplaces, digital environments, education, public services, and global mobility. It explores how language and culture shape interaction, identity, inclusion and power in contemporary societies.
While intercultural communication has become an important focus across sectors internationally, research suggests that intercultural awareness and engagement are often approached in limited or overly instrumental ways. This can restrict deeper understanding of cultural complexity, social practice and the dynamics of communication in rapidly changing global contexts.
Building on developments in intercultural communication, applied linguistics, sociology and global cultural studies, the programme introduces specialised theories, concepts and analytical approaches that understand communication as socially situated and shaped by historical, political, technological and cultural processes.
Students will develop critical, reflective and transferable skills that can be applied across a broad range of professional fields, including:
The programme supports the development of autonomous and critically engaged graduates who are equipped to navigate and contribute to diverse intercultural environments in an increasingly interconnected world.
