📖 项目简介
The World Health Organisation estimates that approximately 16% (1 in 6) of our global population lives with significant disability. This figure is increasing due to ageing populations and chronic health conditions. The most common conditions requiring rehabilitation engineering with assistive technologies include mobility impairments from stroke and spinal cord injury, severe visual and hearing loss, age-related decline, and cognitive and neurological disorders. For people living with disability, rehabilitation can maximise their mental, social and physical independence; significantly improving their quality of life.
Existing and emerging technologies have the capacity to transform the field of rehabilitation. By designing, building and adapting technologies we can reshape how individuals live with the effects of injury, illness or aging, allowing them to live fuller lives with improved function and increased confidence and control.
This course focuses on how state-of-the-art technologies, including brain-computer interfaces and neuromodulation (manipulating nerve activity by delivering stimuli to block pain, control function and treat chronic pain) can be developed and used to improve, restore or replace motor function. You will explore technologies aimed to improve complex medical conditions including spinal cord injury, stroke, neuromuscular diseases and degenerative conditions arising from ageing.
