The Clinical Neuroscience: Stroke MSc provides a comprehensive education in fundamental aspects of stroke research as well as clinical aspects of treatments and care. On this course, you will undertake modules related to stroke from neurosciences, epidemiological and clinical research focussed perspectives. Alongside the Stroke modules, you will be learning generic skills such as statistics, methodology and critical appraisal of research papers. In addition, you will acquire substantial research skills whilst undertaking a project and writing a dissertation with leading researchers in the neurosciences field. You will have the opportunity to choose from the clinical neurosciences modules to add a wider breadth of learning for example basic neurosciences, epilepsy, movement disorders.
Through our partnership with the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, you will benefit from learning from clinical academics and neuroscientists linked to the UK’s largest dedicated neurological and neurosurgical hospital reflecting our commitment to translational research.
During your supervised research project, you will have the opportunity to further develop your in-depth knowledge within a focussed area of stroke, neurosciences or both. You will engage with current research at UCL, benefitting from the Institute’s cutting-edge research focus and environment.
This course will enable you to advance your career to a higher specialised level or help become more established in your career through our research-embedded clinical teaching. As well as gaining knowledge in the specialised field of stroke research and care, the extended research project will enable you to gain many transferable skills in conducting research in the clinical and medical science area.
Many of our graduates have undertaken further study at PhD level or take on research focused roles (e.g. trial recruitment). Some clinicians who took time out to obtain a higher qualification have returned to training, and scientists have progressed to become post-doctoral researchers. 100% of our students were in highly skilled work within 15 months of graduating (Graduate Outcomes survey carried out by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), looking at the destinations of graduates in the 2023–2024 cohort).
