Our Language & Cultural Diversity MA examines the complex relationship between language and cultural diversity, equipping students with an advanced knowledge of the major approaches to linguistic aspects of culture in empirical and applied linguistics. Apart from exploring contemporary cultural processes, the programme also helps students develop research skills and acquire a better understanding of cultural diversity in education. Importantly, students are encouraged to self-reflect and critically evaluate the society/ies around them to find new ways of participating in what’s happening in the world.
Our graduates use the skills which they develop with us to pursue careers across a wide range of sectors: research, journalism, publishing, international relations, government policy, digital media, marketing and language-related professions such as teaching, translation and interpreting. The programme also provides the foundation necessary for those interested in pursuing their doctoral studies and participates in the LISS DTP scheme, which awards ESRC-funded postgraduate research studentships
