Behavioural science explores why people behave as they do, how they make decisions and what can support meaningful behaviour change. On this MSc, you will examine key theories and findings in behavioural science and consider how they can be applied to challenges in public policy, organisations, and society.
You will explore topics such as behavioural biases and social influence, with opportunities to consider how behavioural science can be applied to challenges in environmental sustainability, AI and emerging technologies, public policy, workplaces, and wider society. Alongside this subject knowledge, you will develop advanced research and quantitative skills that will help you assess behavioural claims, interpret data, and make well-informed recommendations.
Your dissertation gives you the opportunity to investigate an original behavioural science question with real-world relevance, under the supervision of an expert academic. The course will prepare you to communicate behavioural insights clearly and use evidence to support better-informed decisions across government, business and non-profit organisations. It also provides a strong foundation for research roles or further study.
The taught modules combine core behavioural science with advanced training in research methods and statistics. You will examine key theories and methodological approaches while developing the analytical skills needed for careers in behavioural science, research, policy and data-informed decision-making.
A third of the course is dedicated to an independent dissertation, supervised by an expert in behavioural science. Previous projects have explored the impact of Net Zero policies on behaviour, the development and evaluation of workplace diversity initiatives, and the design of tools to support positive behaviour change.
