  • Develop the professional skills to become an ethical journalist and documentary-maker who gets the story right in an era of fragmented information.
  • Graduate with a professional portfolio that is competitive across broadcast, digital and independent media.
  • Build multimedia storytelling, project management, budgeting and distribution skills that employers across the media industries are looking for.

This MA is for you if you have a passion for news, current affairs, documentary, or any aspect of factual programme-making. It offers practical training in, and critical engagement with, journalism and documentary-making.

As the media landscape continues to evolve – shaped by AI, the fragmentation of audiences and the global spread of misinformation – journalism and documentary practice play a critical role in democratic life. Stories of climate change, conflict and political upheaval demand skilled, ethically grounded media producers. You’ll learn how to navigate complex power relationships and tell stories with integrity.

You’ll graduate ready to:

  • create informed and engaging journalism for print, radio and TV (on and offline) to a professional standard
  • develop your visual and verbal storytelling
  • research, shoot and edit documentaries on the topics that interest you most
  • manage, schedule, budget and distribute your documentary work.

You’ll also have access to our excellent technical learning facilities .
