This course is eligible for ESRC SEDarc funding as part of a Masters+PhD scholarship. Gain a rigorous training in development economics and develop a thorough understanding of a wide range of economic theories, concepts and methods of analysis. Prepare for policy-oriented roles in government, international organisations and consulting, or for PhD study. On this course, you’ll benefit from our applied approach to teaching and research. You’ll engage in current debates, work with data and appreciate the nuances around economic policies. You’ll learn to: evaluate and develop policy frame complex development challenges process and analyse data using sophisticated tools and techniques communicate economic and technical analysis to specialist and non-specialist audiences apply ethical standards in research work effectively in diverse teams. As well as gaining a solid grounding in micro- and macroeconomic theory, you’ll learn to analyse data and contribute evidence to current debates on a wide range of development issues. You may also choose to do a summer placement in the UK or abroad to broaden your horizons, gain first-hand experience and develop your professional network. You’ll join a department with an exceptional expertise in development economics.
