Our Masters in Statistics & Data Science is a conversion course that allows you to develop skills in statistics and data science without previous study in the area.

Our MSc Statistics & Data Science is designed for students with a background in a broad range of disciplines. It provides an opening to a career as a data scientist or applied statistician, without having previous study in the field. On this course you will:

  • gain skills in data analysis and machine learning, processing of big data, predictive modelling and the use of statistical software packages R and Python
  • become equipped with the necessary training to work as an applied statistician and data scientist in a broad range of fields such as health, insurance, finance and commerce

Academic requirements/experience Minimum second-class (2:2) Honours degree or overseas equivalent. Mathematical training to A Level or equivalent standard. Prospective students with relevant experience or appropriate professional qualifications are also welcome to apply. For Australia and Canada, normal degrees in relevant disciplines are accepted. Don’t meet the academic entry requirements? We offer the Pre-Masters Preparation Course at the University of Strathclyde International Study Centre, for international students (non-UK/Ireland). Mathematical knowledge Applicants are required to have some prior mathematical knowledge, for example, A Level or equivalent in: calculus linear algebra differential equations A free online pre-sessional mathematics course is available for students who lack this knowledge or who require a refresher of existing knowledge. English language requirements You must have an English language minimum score of IELTS 6.0 (with no component below 5.5). We offer comprehensive English language courses for students whose IELTS scores are below 6.0 . In addition to IELTS, the University now accepts a wider range of English language tests for overseas applicants, such as TOEFL and PTE Cambridge.
