St Andrews has one of the largest concentrations of medievalists in the world, bringing historians together with experts in languages, literature and culture, reaching across Europe and the Middle East and from the fourth to the fifteenth centuries.
Our MLitt in Medieval History offers specialist training in key research skills: palaeography, a medieval language and in-depth source criticism. It introduces recent trends in the study of the Middle Ages, includes hands-on study using the remarkable University Collections and equips students to pursue individual research in areas of special interest.
As a research intensive institution, the University ensures that its teaching references the research interests of its staff, which may change from time to time. As a result, programmes are regularly reviewed with the aim of enhancing students' learning experience. Our approach to course revision is described online .
