Study our full-time 2 year audiology master’s with clinical placement and combine scientific learning with practical training. Our 3 year course offers a part-time clinical placement over 2 years. Gain the skills to work in clinical audiology.
After completing the course, you can apply to register with The Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) to work as an audiologist in the NHS, and/or with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a hearing aid dispenser.
If you’re new to audiology or are a qualified health professional who wants to take their career further, this master’s degree offers a great way to develop your skills. Through a mixture of theory and practical work – including clinical placements in the UK, Ireland and Jersey – you'll gain insight and expertise to specialise in the field of audiology. All placement centres are approved and accredited by the University of Southampton and include a mixture of NHS and private clinics.

The first year of the MSc Audiology with Clinical Placement and the MSc Audiology are identical. Your audiology training is divided into 2 semesters, with the last 4 months dedicated to your research project, at the end of which you will submit a thesis.
For your research project you’ll bring together all the skills you’ve learnt on the course, and show in-depth knowledge of 1 or more of the subject areas studied. You should also exceed the existing standard of technical design and address a novel problem that requires the application of new research.
In your second year you’ll participate in a clinical placement. This allows you to complete the Certificate of Clinical Competence.
This degree is also available to study over 3 years. Your first year is studied full-time, and your clinical placement is studied part-time over 2 years.

A UK bachelor’s degree with upper second-class honours (2:1) in a related discipline such as a physical, biological, life or behavioural science, or an engineering subject.

an understanding of the audiology profession

why you want to carry out a placement
why you are suitable for a placement
You will be interviewed by a member of the programme team to assess your suitability for clinical placement.
