Education transforms lives. It drives personal fulfilment, social change, and economic development, and the best educators never stop learning.
Our MSc Education prepares you to be part of that change. Drawing on cutting-edge research, international perspectives, and the expertise of Nottingham's renowned School of Education, the programme addresses the educational challenges that matter most, wherever you are in the world.
Study the issues shaping education globally and locally. Core modules build a rigorous foundation in educational thought, while specialist routes let you tailor your degree to your context, interests, and career goals. Chosen specialisms are recognised on your academic transcript.
The taught element of this course is made up of 120 credits (six 20-credit modules). You will complete four core modules, plus two optional ones, and then complete a 60-credit dissertation.
You can choose two optional modules to suit your interests. You could maximise flexibility by selecting from any of the many optional modules or you could choose to specialise and take a pre-determined route.
Each module has its own focus, but all explore contemporary educational issues through historical, political, and social lenses — drawing on relevant literature and the shared experience of fellow students.
PGCEi/PGCE graduates can apply for exemption for up to 60 credits. All approved applications will receive exemption from 40 credits, but if you successfully completed your course with the award of a merit or distinction, you can apply for exemption for 60 credits. You would then be exempt from the core modules: Education and Society, and Learning and Development (plus one optional module for 60 credits).
The course can be completed over one year full-time (including dissertation) following this study pattern:
