Explore how green infrastructure can help create more sustainable, resilient and liveable places that improve the urban environment and support wellbeing. This includes features such as parks, urban trees, sustainable drainage, green roofs, riversides and connected green spaces.
MSc Green Infrastructure is a pioneering courses that brings together geography, planning and environmental management to examine how green spaces, natural systems and nature-based solutions can address major social, environmental and economic challenges.
As cities and communities respond to climate change, biodiversity loss and pressures on public health and wellbeing, demand is growing for professionals who can plan, deliver and evaluate effective green infrastructure.
You will learn from experts with an interdisciplinary approach to the design, implementation and management of green infrastructure in real-world settings. You will also develop an understanding of the policy and governance frameworks that shape delivery.
You will be taught by internationally recognised experts whose research informs policy and practice in areas including urban greening, sustainable drainage, nature-based solutions and environmental management. Through applied projects, fieldwork and case studies, you will develop the practical and analytical skills needed to implement and evaluate green infrastructure and understand its impacts.
Manchester and the wider North West of England provide an urban laboratory for learning, offering access to a range of green infrastructure initiatives and projects. The course engages with practitioners, policymakers and communities working to improve urban environments and create more sustainable places.
