I came to Manchester almost 20 years ago to study on the MSc in Mechanical Engineering Design myself. I was attracted to the course as it was- and still is- quite unique to provide technical engineering design training.
Most design courses focus on aesthetics but our MSc focusses on technical engineering competency and its application to engineering design. The experience and knowledge from our engineering lecturers enables students to apply their knowledge to a wide variety of industrial and/or research focussed projects in a range of areas from Nuclear to Bioengineering products and problems.
As a graduate from MSc Mechanical Engineering Design, you will be equipped with the knowledge to tackle both the design of complex systems and evaluate your design's performance using technical engineering skills.
As you learn about the design process closely, you will cover specification development, concept design, detail design, and prototype production. During your time on the course, you will look into highly practical technical evaluation skills based on theory, experimentation, and computer modelling to determine the feasibility and performance of new products and to assess the performance of existing equipment.
As a technical engineering course, this MSc is built on solid mechanics principles which integrate advanced engineering techniques with hands-on learning to provide a complementary blend of skills desired by employers.
Our department is a vibrant environment to study in, with 200 years of expertise in teaching engineering, high calibre facilities, strong industry links, and a vision to provide modern, world-class education.
The standard academic entry requirement forthis Master's course isan upper second class UK honours degree or international equivalent in a relevant science or engineering discipline.
Please note that we consider grades achieved in key relevant modules in your undergraduate degree as well as the overall degree result.
