1. Comply with the University Entrance Requirements; and 2. Hold a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Engineering or related Sciences) of this University or a comparable institution accepted for this purpose.
The Master of Science in Engineering in Integrated Circuits and Electronic Systems [MSc(Eng)(ICES)] equips students with a comprehensive understanding of integrated circuits (IC) design and electronic systems. By combining theoretical foundations with hands-on training, the programme is designed to meet the growing industry demand for highly skilled professionals. IC and electronic systems underpin innovation in communication, healthcare, transportation and energy. At the same time, the development of advanced semiconductor devices, ICs and embedded systems requires expertise in high-precision manufacturing, circuit design and multidisciplinary knowledge across electronics, physics, computer science and material science. The curriculum covers key areas such as advanced semiconductor devices, integrated circuit system design, analog IC design, computing and memories, digital system design techniques, mixed-signal integrated circuits and computer system architecture. It also introduces developments in memory devices, power electronics, wide-bandgap devices, advanced electronic packaging, integrated silicon photonics, AI hardware, neural networks and distributed systems. Students learn through experiential learning, including practical projects, laboratory work, and dissertation research. These activities enable students to apply theoretical concepts to real-world challenges in IC and system design. Graduates are well prepared for roles in semiconductor technology, mixed-signal IC design, power electronics, and system integration. Students are required to complete 72 credits, comprising 48 credits of courses and a dissertation equivalent to 24 credits.
