The Master of Science in Urban Design and Transport [MSc(UDT)] provides a comprehensive, interdisciplinary education designed to equip students with the core knowledge and technical competencies in design thinking, urban design values creation and management, and sciences of urban design and transport. The programme emphasises the integration of emerging transformative technologies, design, and behavioural analytics in an age of great urban challenges. The programme is co-organised by the Department of Urban Planning and Design, the Department of Geography, and the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Hong Kong. MSc(UDT) is a specialised, professional degree designed to lead directly to professional qualification and registration in the field of Urban Design and Transport. The programme is provisionally accredited by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Hong Kong (CILTHK), which is the professional body for those engaged in various sectors of transport and logistics, including air, sea and land, for both passengers and freight transportation. Through taking elective courses, students are able to develop specialism in a sub-field of transport modelling, development economics and finance, law and development management, housing economics and development. Career Prospects: Graduates may take up professional positions in governments, NGOs, urban and transport planning and design practices and consultancies in Hong Kong, Mainland China and beyond. Graduates may also pursue further studies in the MPhil and PhD programmes at HKU and other reputable universities around the world.
The applicant shall possess: - a bachelor's degree in Transport Science/ Engineering/ Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, Urban Design or related and relevant fields from the University of Hong Kong or - an equivalent qualification from another university or comparable institution accepted for this purpose; and - a passing grade in the qualifying examination, if required. Applicants whose first degree was not taught in English need to demonstrate competency in the English language in accordance with the University's General Regulations.
