You will be supported by a friendly, internationally acclaimed team of scholars with expertise in a wide range of fields relating to fantasy studies. Our programme benefits from a range of extracurricular academic events which change year-on-year. You will be a member of the Centre for Fantasy and the Fantastic at the University of Glasgow. • With a longstanding interest in, or a growing curiosity about, fantasy and the fantastic
• Intending to pursue or further develop a career in cultural production, publishing and editing, heritage, teaching or related fields
• Looking to deepen their understanding of the imaginative arts and their real-world relevance and impact

Key topics include:

• Modes of cultural production associated with fantasy and the fantastic
• The history, evolution and interpretation of fantasy over the past two centuries
• The cultural and social significance of fantasy across a range of historical and geographical contexts

Skills you will develop:

• Advanced oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present sustained and persuasive arguments clearly and coherently
• The ability to develop, investigate and refine independent research questions
• Advanced research skills, including the effective use of information retrieval systems and research resources

• The ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively, listening and responding perceptively to others

The programme is really, really malleable to the things that you like and you care about. The study of fantasy and the study of literature is fundamentally a study of people and communication. Really what you're learning how to do here is think in a particular way. If you really love fantasy and this is really your world, it is the world of your cohort as well. A 2.2 Honours degree may be considered.

Substantial, directly relevant experience may be considered in place of formal qualifications. If you are applying based on relevant experience, please include a personal statement evidencing this with your application.

Degree from majority-English speaking country (as defined by the UKVI including Canada if taught in English)

• students must have studied for a minimum of their final year at Undergraduate level, or 9 months at Master's level, and must have completed their degree in that majority-English speaking country within 6 years of programme start.

TNE degree from UK university taught at a campus outside of the UK

• students must be awarded the degree by the UK university and must have completed the degree within 6 years of programme start.
