• The University of Glasgow has been delivering world-class engineering education and research since 1840.
• Biomedical Engineering is the newest division of the School of Engineering, bringing together our long standing expertise. Research covers four themes, Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering, Bionanotechnology, Rehabilitation Engineering, Biosensors and Diagnostics.
• Electronic & Electrical Engineering at Glasgow is ranked 1st in Scotland (Complete University Guide 2026).
• The course is based on in-depth modules and individual projects, which are designed to give graduates an opportunity to specialise in specific areas of biomedical engineering or to cover a more general biomedical engineering syllabus.
• This taught MSc offers a wide exposure to the philosophy and practice of biomedical engineering whilst simultaneously enabling students to deepen their knowledge of specific areas of biomedical engineering disciplines, which have been chosen on the basis of the research strengths of the discipline. The choice includes Biomaterials and Biomechanics including their application in Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine, Rehabilitation Engineering applied within Glasgow hospitals, and bioelectronics and diagnostic systems designed to be applied from advanced hospitals to out-in-the-field situations.
• The compulsory part of the programme provides the basic underlying knowledge needed throughout biomedical engineering. These core courses are taken in both semesters to allow a wide range of optional subjects to be available.
• The school has an Athena Swan Silver Award, demonstrating the school’s commitment to supporting women in scientific studies and careers, and to improving the working environment for all.

2.1 Hons (or non-UK equivalent) in any Engineering discipline, Computing Science or Physical Sciences/Mathematics degree with at least 2 credit bearing modules in Engineering Maths and/or Maths at an average grade of pass.

We may also accept degrees in Biology, Medicine, or Life Science that include significant Mathematics or Engineering Mathematics modules.

We normally accept the following modules to meet the credit bearing module requirement:

• Engineering Analysis
• Maths
• Thermodynamics (1st Class Result (or non-UK equivalent))
• Algebra
• Applied Mathematics
• Differential Calculus
• Differential Equations
• Engineering Mathematics
• Integral Calculus
• Multivariable Calculus
• Statistics
• Vector Calculus

We exceptionally accept degrees at 2.2 Hons (or non-UK equivalent) with an average grade of 2.1 in accepted modules. Extensive work experience may be considered in addition to academic content for those that fall just below the degree requirements listed above.

Please note that this programme is not open to recent graduates of the MEng/BEng in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Glasgow due to the overlap in course content.

For applicants from non-majority English speaking countries, as defined by the UK Government , the University sets a minimum English Language proficiency level.

We accept a wide range of English language tests for entry to this programme. Tests must have been taken within 2 years 5 months of programme start date, and requirements must be met using a single test.

• 6.5 overall with no subtest less than 6.0
• IELTS One Skill Retake Accepted
• We do not accept General Training

• 90 overall with no subtest less than Reading 20; Listening 19; Speaking 19; Writing 21
