• If you are new to, or experienced in, the field of TESOL, this programme is for you. It will give you the opportunity to develop your professional understanding of English language teaching and to investigate the challenges of emerging technologies, including AI, in the field.
• You will develop your research and applied skills through investigating the links of theory to practice, as well as have the opportunity to make networking connections to further enhance and support your practice.
• You will have opportunities to develop your confidence in teaching through linking theory to practice by observing lessons, planning tasks and micro-teaching to peers.
• The programme draws on the combined expertise of the School of Education and the long established English for Academic Study Unit (School of Modern Languages and Cultures). This enables us to embed our extensive professional and research experience in the areas of language teaching and research.

2.2 Hons (or non-UK equivalent) in English, other Modern Foreign Languages, Education, Applied Linguistics, Translation, English literature, TESOL/TEFL (UG) or TCSOL (Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages).

Degrees outside the standard entry requirements will be considered with 2+ years professional teaching experience. Please upload a CV, personal statement and teaching certificate with your application.

If you have a degree in Business English, please apply for the MSc Educational Studies .

For applicants from non-majority English speaking countries, as defined by the UK Government , the University sets a minimum English Language proficiency level.

We accept a wide range of English language tests for entry to this programme. Tests must have been taken within 2 years 5 months of programme start date, and requirements must be met using a single test.

Degree from majority-English speaking country (as defined by the UKVI including Canada if taught in English):

• students must have studied for a minimum of their final year at Undergraduate level, or 9 months at Master's level, and must have completed their degree in that majority-English speaking country within 6 years of programme start.

TNE degree from UK university taught at a campus outside of the UK:

• students must be awarded the degree by the UK university and must have completed the degree within 6 years of programme start.
