📖 项目简介
The MPhil in Heritage Studies focuses on the interdisciplinary field of Heritage Studies and equips students with a critical understanding of the diverse uses of heritage in the present. The overall aims are:
To enable students to attain a critical appreciation of the development of heritage as a public enterprise, its theory, its values and uses. By the end of the course, students are expected to understand the broader context in which the heritage sector operates, the approaches and methods employed by professionals in the field, and to be able to enter a range of professions within the heritage industry.
To enable students to think both reflectively and analytically about the field and the nature of heritage. By the end of the course, students are expected to be able to apply their critical thinking and knowledge about heritage to particular specialisations and be able to pursue independent research in their field of specialisation.
To give students training in a range of general, transferable skills, such as analysing and formulating arguments, writing, presentation, debate, and research skills. By the end of the course, students are expected to be able to exercise these skills in any professional-level work which requires them.

All MPhil students in the Department of Archaeology take a Research Skills module and write a research dissertation. Students taking the MPhil in Heritage Studies will be required to take two core modules in heritage. Students then take a further module or modules from any offered in the Department of Archaeology. All module choices must have the approval of the module's instructor and the MPhil coordinator.
The University of Cambridge publishes an annual Code of Practice which sets out the University’s expectations regarding teaching and examination of MPhil degrees.
Students can expect to receive termly online progress reports. Supervisors or module coordinators may provide additional written or oral feedback on assessed work.
Students are invited to group meetings throughout the year to discuss progress and concerns in order to address issues as and when they arise.
The dissertation is an extended piece of independent, original research. Students work with their supervisor to formulate a dissertation project, carry out research and write it up. The maximum permitted length of the dissertation is 15,000 words.
Assessment will be through a range of formats which may include coursework, written and oral examinations, posters, presentations and projects.
Attendance at the relevant Research Skills training workshops is required of all MPhil students in the Department of Archaeology. Its mode of assessment will usually include a research proposal and an oral presentation (supported by visual aids) to teaching staff and peers.

Students usually enter the MPhil in Heritage Studies from a range of backgrounds including Archaeology, Architecture, History, History of Art, Social Anthropology, Classics, Law, International Relations and other cognate disciplines. Applicants must make clear their reasoning for wanting to study the programme.
If you have a non-traditional academic trajectory or your most recent degree is five or more years in the past , please contact the postgraduate admissions administrator before making an application so we can advise you appropriately.
