The Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) program at UBC is one of the leading physical therapy programs in Canada and accepts 143 students across four sites.
The MPT program is a 26-month master’s degree that uses an integrated, case-based approach and is taught by the department’s award-winning academic faculty and a community of clinical educators.
Students experience a wide variety of clinical settings in both the public and private sectors over five clinical placements, with opportunities to participate in innovative projects and novel clinical experiences. Clinical learning takes place in communities across the province.
The evidence-based curriculum is structured to promote critical thinking, develop problem-solving skills, foster teamwork and collaboration, and empower students to be lifelong learners.
For specific program requirements, please refer to the departmental program website
The MPT program is the only entry-to-practice Physical Therapy program in British Columbia. It is fully distributed and provides students with the opportunity to study in state-of-the-art labs at UBC’s campus in Vancouver , in the Interior Region / Vancouver , in the Fraser Valley , at UVic’s campus in Victoria , and at UNBC’s campus in Prince George .
The MPT program’s fully distributed model of learning uses technology that allows instructors and students to interact in real time across multiple locations. All MPT students complete the same curriculum at the same time, regardless of site. Distributed learning is a well-established model used by health profession programs across the country, offering significant advantages such as access to expertise from across the province and unique placement opportunities.
