[Andreas] I'm Andreas and I studied MSc Sustainable Chemistry here at Birmingham.
One reason I chose to study Sustainable Chemistry here at Birmingham is the academics and the staff.
They're all very, very friendly and very helpful, and they're at the forefront of their research fields.
So, as you can see, we're in the Molecular Sciences Building, and that's just been built for chemistry students.
It’s a really, really nice study space and research space, and this is actually where you'll be doing your summer research project.
Another reason that I chose to study here is the campus.
It's really, really green and kind of sustainable campus in itself.
I think my favourite aspect of the course was definitely the mix of theory and industrial relevance that you get.
So, there's a lot of different industrial businesses that come in and academic businesses that come in.
So, you kind of get a mix of this study based and also industrial based applications to sustainable chemistry in particular.
I really enjoyed the Circular Economy module because it kind of teaches you about the basics of sustainability and the circular economy, and then kind of spreads that into a wide impact in terms of industrial applications.
And I think it really broadens the horizons of what is possible with sustainability and green chemistry.
I think if you're really interested in areas of sustainability and kind of, green impact and things like that, this course is definitely for you.
I've actually started my PhD here in Birmingham, but there are so many different routes that you can go down after completing your MSc, because of the industrial relevance that you get during the course, you can go down pretty much any route and be successful.

Course structure The MSc is a 1 year full-time advanced course. 120 credits of modules assessed through coursework, short reports and presentations and a 60 credit research project.
This semester focuses on developing a fundamental knowledge of Circular Economy and Life Cycle Assessment. These modules will underpin the material to be taught in term 2 and the research projects.
In addition, you'll have a research skills module that will develop your skills in developing literature reviews and critiquing different presentation styles. You'll also have the opportunity to participate in some engaging assessments including Dragon's Den pitches.
This term delves deeper into the progressions within sustainable chemistry research, with a spotlight on materials designed for carbon capture, solar cells, battery materials, and other significant areas.
Furthermore, there will be an emphasis on Green Chemistry and its potential implications for the chemical industry and solid-state reactivity. You'll also participate in 'pitch to peer' style presentations.
The summer is dedicated to your research project. You'll work closely with an academic supervisor and their research group on a pioneering research project.
This could be experimental and lab based, theoretical and literature based, involve modelling, or be a mixture of all three elements. This project will be concluded by the start of September with marks and feedback delivered by the end of September.
