Course Structure This course will run over 12 months in a full-time-mode. While the exact content may change, here’s what you can expect to study each semester. This is based on a full time Masters course.
Term One – Problem Identification
Semester One begins with a three day Bootcamp during the first week of the academic year in September. Throughout the Bootcamp, you'll engage in team-building activities, focused workshops, and seminars featuring guest lectures from expert clinicians and industry professionals. You’ll learn about the methodology of needs-led innovation, which includes stakeholder mapping, conducting stakeholder interviews, crafting need statements, and prioritizing needs. The fundamentals of MedTech entrepreneurship will also be covered in the Bootcamp and taught in detail in the lectures following the Bootcamp.
Clinical immersion is a crucial component of discovering clinical needs. You, along with your team members, will conduct field surveys and stakeholder interviews to identify and validate healthcare needs.
Term Two – Solution Development
Term Two begins with a three day “Design Bootcamp” focused on healthcare product development and user-centred design methods. The Bootcamp combines interactive lectures, brainstorming workshops, and guest presentations from experts in the MedTech industry.
After the Bootcamp, you'll engage in design iterations, supported by research and prototype development, to establish evidence for your technology solution addressing the selected clinical problem from your needs discovery process.
Term Three – Solution Validation and Business Case Development
During the summer term, you'll conduct a research project to create a proof of concept for your solution and develop a viable business case. This term offers a unique opportunity to collaborate across disciplines at the University, under the guidance of an academic supervisor and external advisors.
You’ll also have the chance to refine your business pitches and apply for competitive funding and support to further your entrepreneurial journey.
