[Conroy] My name is Conroy and I'm studying MSc Advanced Mechanical Engineering at the University of Birmingham.
I chose Advanced Mechanical Engineering for my Master's, particularly at Birmingham, first of all because of the reputation of the University, and the modules they had on offer.
One of the modules I studied that kind of stands out to me was called RAMP - so it stands for Research and Application Machine Processes.
Micro-machining, quite new advancements of VIPER grinding, point grinding, getting into that side of things.
You get to go down to one of the Engineering buildings (Y3), and you get to observe how the milling machine works, how turning machine works, how CMM machine works.
I think of outside of studying, definitely the opportunities that UoB has on offer, such as the sports - I took part in ice skating.
I did UB Racing, so I was in the racing team.
I also took part in my first semester with UB Robotics, so although my course isn't directly a Robotics course, there are opportunities to do things that you're interested in.
It's helped me personally be successful in landing a graduate role actually, so I feel like without doing my Master's, I don't think I would have had the tools necessary.
I've been able to go into interviews and really let them know what I've done, I can show them my portfolio, projects I've worked on, and that really helps me in securing my graduate role for the future.
Having studied it, it turns out I was correct to choose here, because I have enjoyed it.
