This specialist master’s degree addresses one of the most consequential challenges in global health: how to understand, shape and improve complex health systems. Delivered by academics and industry experts at the world’s first business school dedicated to health, the Health Systems, Policy and Innovation MSc offers a focused, real-world learning experience at a globally ranked top 10 university (QS World University Rankings 2027).
Health systems are under increasing pressure. Demographic change, widening inequalities, environmental disruption and rapid technological advancement are reshaping how care is delivered and experienced. At the same time, evolving political and economic conditions are transforming how health systems are financed, governed and improved. These challenges demand leaders who can work across disciplines, sectors and institutions to drive meaningful change.
Our course develops your expertise from core health systems and policy perspectives through to advanced topics including innovation, leadership, sustainability and digital transformation. On completion of this course, you will develop:
A systems-level understanding of how health systems function across governance, financing, service delivery, workforce and data.
The ability to analyse and respond to complex health system challenges using evidence, policy insight and strategic thinking.
Strong research and analytical skills to support decision-making, policy development and system improvement.
Confidence in engaging with digital transformation and AI from both governance and implementation perspectives.
Written and verbal communication skills suited to policy, strategy and multidisciplinary environments.
Leadership and stakeholder management skills to influence change across sectors and institutions.
A critical understanding of the ethical, political and societal factors shaping health systems.
This MSc will equip graduates with the knowledge and skills to pursue careers across government, global health organisations, consultancy, industry, academia and civil society. Opportunities may include contributing to health policy, strategy, systems improvement and innovation within public agencies, international organisations, NGOs, think tanks and private-sector organisations.
Graduates will also be well suited to roles in healthcare delivery, biotechnology, digital health, AI and emerging health markets, where systems thinking and cross-sector expertise are increasingly valued.
