Education is shaped not only by teaching, but by the spaces, systems and organisations that support learning. As schools, universities and community learning settings respond to social, environmental and technological change, there is growing demand for professionals who can plan and manage sustainable learning environments that support inclusion, wellbeing and access to education.
This interdisciplinary course combines perspectives from education, management and the built environment. You explore how schools, universities, community settings and lifelong learning environments work as educational, social and managed spaces. You examine how they are planned, managed and evaluated, alongside themes including educational innovation, digital technologies, sustainability and social inclusion.
The course places particular emphasis on social sustainability and inclusive educational spaces and processes. You critically examine how factors such as gender, race, disability, class, economic inequality, and physical and mental wellbeing shape educational experiences, participation and access to learning, and investigate how educational institutions, spaces and systems can respond to diverse community needs through inclusive and sustainable approaches to educational planning and organisational change.
The course develops the interdisciplinary, strategic and analytical capabilities needed to respond to evolving challenges across education, sustainability and the built environment. You build understanding of sustainable learning environments, educational innovation, digital technologies, organisational strategy and socially responsible approaches to managing educational spaces and processes.
