The Bioscience: Research & Development MSc is an intensive, preclinical science-based course designed for students with a biomedical background who want to deepen their understanding of how novel therapies are developed. The course explores therapeutic approaches, including stem cell and gene therapies, the science of disease and treatment strategies, and the practical application and translation of research into new therapies.
The course is designed to develop the practical skills and strategies for shaping research practice needed when identifying science-based solutions and innovations, and shaping opportunities for these to be developed and actualised in lab based contexts.
You will benefit from an extended period of laboratory experience, which then progresses into independent research activity and lab based practice. By the end of the course, you will have developed meaningful bench skills and completed a defined lab based research project, maximising your capacity to develop your practice further.
Graduates from this course will also have:
Graduates from this course will gain a systematic understanding of research and therapeutics, and a critical awareness of current problems and new insights informed by current research and practice at the forefront of the field.
You’ll also acquire a comprehensive understanding of the techniques and processes which drive both research practice and the therapies themselves and a capacity to apply and generate new knowledge through their own research, with a practical integration of established techniques of research and enquiry in this area, and the potential to innovate new models for research in practice. As a result of learning these skills, graduates from this course to be well placed for applying for positions in a research environment or in clinical trials.
