Better health has always been one of the main catalysts for scientific progress. However, in an age of unprecedented advancement, we urgently need to combine technological progress with innovative policy – robust enough to keep us safe, and agile enough to stay in step with the rate of change.
On this MPA, you’ll build practical skills at the intersection of health, technology and public policy, and extensive knowledge on emerging health technologies and innovation.
You’ll also develop the systems thinking approaches needed to move beyond linear, cause-and-effect based clinical approaches, and deal with health technologies in their social, political, economic and behavioural contexts.
As a graduate of this master’s, you’ll be ready to meet the urgent need for policy analysts and public servants with the robust understanding of socio-technical systems needed to successfully tackle innovation policy challenges.
You’ll have a comprehensive set of research skills, and you’ll be able to evaluate a wide range of health technologies, assessing their ethical implications as well as their effectiveness throughout their lifecycle across different settings and usages.
You’ll have the practical policy making skills needed to forecast and respond to rapidly changing technologies and environments for population health. You’ll be capable of designing innovation ecosystems that meet the needs of different communities, countries and global regions.
You’ll also possess a strong foundational understanding of how concepts such as equity and need are measured, defined and influenced in health ethics and innovation systems, using metrics such as QALY and DALY.
Graduates from this master’s degree go on to be successful across a wide range of health, innovation and public policy contexts. You’ll be well prepared to carry out policy making activity or analysis in health across the public, private or charity sectors.
Your specialism and research skills will also open up opportunities for research and development consultation, coordination, communications, or management in industry or academia.
