UCL Computer Science combines world-leading expertise in artificial intelligence with an interdisciplinary approach to biomedical and healthcare innovation. You will learn from academics and practitioners across computer science, biomedicine, clinical practice, social sciences and the humanities, gaining the breadth of insight needed to develop AI responsibly and effectively for health.
Based in London, you will be part of one of the world’s most dynamic health, technology and life sciences ecosystems, with access to a rich network of universities, hospitals, research institutes, start-ups, global companies and public-sector partners. From clinical diagnosis and treatment optimisation to drug discovery service planning and public health decision-making, AI is reshaping healthcare and biomedical research. You will learn from biomedical scientists, clinicians, and industry practitioners who specialise in applying artificial intelligence across the healthcare spectrum. Their perspectives will help you translate technical methods into robust, ethical and clinically meaningful solutions.
A central element of the course is the individual project, where you will apply AI methods to a substantial biomedical, clinical or public health question. Projects may involve engagement with healthcare stakeholders, such as hospital departments, research laboratories or health-technology companies, giving you the opportunity to develop practical problem-solving skills and contribute to challenges with relevance for patient care, health systems and biomedical discovery.

This course will prepare you to succeed as an AI practitioner in multidisciplinary biomedical, healthcare and research settings.
