Smart technologies and digitisation are radically changing the way new chemicals and materials are being developed and produced.
This MSc will prepare you to enter a rapidly changing field, where R&D and manufacturing have moved on from the traditional and labour-intensive, manual experimentation and analysis.
Designed for the next generation of engineers and scientists, this course champions a holistic digital approach, combining up-to-date synthetic and analytical procedures, automation, data science, and a variety of computational tools.
With a firm foundation in research methods, insight into topical research, and strong interdisciplinary skills, you will be well placed for roles in research and manufacturing environments driving innovation and digital transformation. The course emphasises hands-on learning in material development and production, guided by industry needs, with the Term 3 research projects designed to further strengthen practical skills and industry readiness
As the Digital Manufacturing of Advanced Materials MSc launched in September 2023, graduate-destinations data are still developing. Outcomes to date show that DMAM graduates secure exciting roles across advanced manufacturing, healthcare and diagnostics, pharmaceutics, energy, data science, and consulting. Many also pursue PhDs in the UK and internationally. More broadly, UCL Chemical Engineering graduates progress to leading organisations including Johnson Matthey, Unilever, EY, and Transport for London, or pursue further study at universities such as Cambridge, Warwick, Sheffield, TU Delft, and the National University of Singapore.
