Study one of the world’s most dynamic and complex regions at UCL’s School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES), based in central London. As the UK’s leading centre for research and teaching on Russia, Central and Eastern Europe, the Baltics, the Caucasus and Central Asia, SSEES offers a truly global perspective on a region that continues to shape international politics.
The Russian and Post-Soviet Politics MA explores the historical legacies, political transformations and contemporary challenges affecting Russia and its neighbouring states. You will gain a deep understanding of key issues such as governance and corruption, nationalism, conflict and security, as well as emerging themes including identity and social change.
The programme is highly flexible and internationally focused. Alongside core study, you can tailor your degree through a wide range of optional modules covering different regions and major global debates – for example, democracy in Central and Eastern Europe, international security, or the role of popular culture in politics.
With their specialist knowledge and language skills, SSEES Master’s graduates can be found in business, finance, the media, international agencies, charities, diplomacy, international security organisations, the law, and academia. You will acquire transferable skills such as critical reasoning, independent thinking and application of theoretical concepts which strongly place you to find employment in international organisations, and particularly careers which cross international boundaries and value linguistic and cultural knowledge. The School of Slavonic and East European Studies has its own Careers Tutor and advisor and careers events are held during the year to enable students to meet prospective employers and gain insights from sectors, enable networking and attend hands-on workshops.
