Delivered jointly by two world-leading research faculties, the UCL Institute of Education (IOE) and UCL Engineering, this flexible multidisciplinary Master’s allows you to enhance your career by acquiring 21st capabilities.
The course is one of very few courses in the world that assists students to supplement their first degree domain knowledge, for example, in architecture, engineering, finance, or project management with social science expertise. It therefore will enable you to gain an interdisciplinary perspective on, and interdisciplinary expertise to, work more effectively in whatever form of employment you subsequently pursue or enhance your ability to train adaptable, critically engaged engineers.
Unlike traditional Master’s degrees, this course instead helps you develop a research-informed approach to issues that are reshaping how we think about engineering and professional practice, education and policy. You’ll absorb the latest insights on topics like the role (and limitations) of generative AI in the workplace or classroom, leadership, sustainable development, or globalised working practices that require us to work effectively across time zones, culture barriers, and digitally mediated contexts.
As a graduate of this Master’s, you’ll increase your capability to effectively lead and manage multidisciplinary teams and projects. You’ll combine intercultural collaboration and communication skills with an understanding of how to implement sustainable development goals and navigate international contexts and globalised working practices. Through exposure to project-based learning approaches, you’ll gain insights into curriculum design and discover ways to foster meaningful connections between theory and practice across educational settings.
Advanced critical thinking skills will enable you to evaluate complex technical, organisational and societal challenges. You’ll acquire skills in using generative AI as a working and learning resource to design novel educational or occupational processes. You’ll also become research literate, with the skills to critically evaluate and synthesise evidence to support decision making in a range of contexts and environments.
Graduates from this Master’s degree go on to be successful, securing or enhancing existing roles across wide-ranging contexts related to education, engineering and research.
You’ll be well positioned to take on or enhance existing roles in engineering consultancy, management consultancy, departments of engineering, educational administration or teaching. The Graduate Outcomes survey carried out by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) examines the destinations of graduates from the 2018–2024 cohorts.
