Biomedical Sciences and Engineering combines engineering with life sciences
Biomedical Sciences and Engineering programme combines engineering with life sciences. We need advanced monitoring devices, implants, and algorithms to deliver personalized healthcare for everyone.
Biomedical Micro- and Nanodevices
Biomedical Micro- and Nanodevices specialisation focuses on the design, fabrication, characterization, and application of micro- and nanoscale technologies for biomedical and healthcare applications, including microsensors, microactuators, microrobots, microfluidics, micro-optics, wireless power and signal transfer, and biosensors. The specialisation combines microsystems engineering with biomedical sciences, providing a unique interdisciplinary education in Finland. Students gain both theoretical understanding of microscale physics and practical skills in cleanroom microfabrication, microscopy, modelling, simulation, testing, and characterization of microdevices. Emphasis is placed on miniaturization as a key technological trend that enables more sustainable, efficient, and data-rich solutions. Graduates learn to develop and apply advanced technologies, including microfluidic chips, wearable and portable devices, organ-on-chip systems, and soft robotic structures.
In this specialisation, you will learn to:
Apply microscale physics in device design and operation. Design and develop micro- and nanoscale biomedical devices and systems. Model, simulate, characterize, and test these systems. Use microfabrication and cleanroom technologies. Integrate engineering solutions
