There is an increasing global demand for academic experts and highly qualified professionals capable of understanding and steering transformative change in cities and regions. Climate and sustainability transitions, socio-spatial inequalities, economic restructuring, and demographic challenges are fundamentally reshaping urban and regional development across the world. This need has been recognised by public authorities, international organisations, development agencies, businesses, and civil society actors engaged in urban and regional governance and development.
Addressing the societal and organisational challenges arising from the structural transformations requires experts who can innovatively and strategically integrate state-of-the-art scientific knowledge with practical governance work. In particular, there is a growing need for professionals who can combine insights from urban, regional, administrative and innovation studies to devise, analyse, and lead governance processes that enable long-term, place-based transformation.
The Master’s Programme in Transformative Urban and Regional Governance educates experts who specialise in the governance of cities and regions. The programme equips students with advanced analytical and practical skills to understand power relations, institutional dynamics, and collective action in complex urban and regional settings. Graduates are prepared to work across governance levels and sectors, contributing to transformation processes in local, regional, national, and international contexts.
