The Master of Arts (M.A.) in Art History (Thesis) offered by the Department of Art History & Communications in the Faculty of Arts is a research-intensive program that emphasizes interactive and tailored learning opportunities. The program's objective is to equip students with skills in original thinking, critical reading, and research dissemination to either continue their studies or pursue professional opportunities.

The program may also be taken with the Gender and Women's Studies option with required coursework in gender and women's studies. The student's MA thesis must be on a topic that significantly engages with issues of gender and/or women and/or feminism.

Areas of specialization include the visual and material culture of medicine, museum studies, the history of collecting, race and representation, and art historical methodologies, notably Feminism, Postcolonialism and Transcultural studies, and Queer Theory.
