The Master’s Programme in Energy-efficient and Environmental Building Design prepares architects and building engineers to shape a low-carbon built environment in a changing climate.
Taking a whole-building perspective, the programme integrates design, building physics, building services, energy systems, and occupants’ health and comfort. You will learn to design high-performance buildings and renovate existing ones towards carbon neutrality and climate resilience. Often, the most sustainable building is the one that does not need to be built.
Building on Lund University’s heritage, the passive house concept was first proposed here, the programme combines environmental building performance with simulation, parametric modelling and AI-supported tools. You will learn to assess these tools critically, including their assumptions and limitations.
Education is grounded in practice through measurements, experiments, simulations, design exercises and building projects. In interdisciplinary and international teams, you will connect theory with the reality of buildings and professional practice.
Industry links include guest lectures, site visits, collaborations and Master’s theses with companies and organisations.
