The User Experience Design programme prepares you for the job you want as a User Experience Design professional. This advanced degree is focused on employability. Over the years, this course has been developed in conjunction with industry contacts and partners. We have over 10 years of past students who have gone onto great careers in the Experience Design field, and we look forward to you doing the same too.
We welcome applicants from all backgrounds. It is not necessary to have a design background to complete this course – in fact some of our most successful students have come from backgrounds such as business, psychology and languages. All you need is an interest in people and a curious mind!
This course is quite unique in being offered as an MSc or an MA – you can choose which pathway you want. The content for the MSc and the MA is very similar; the main difference is what type of final project you will do. Doing an MSc means you will focus on empirical investigation and data analysis. If you do this programme as an MA your final project will be creative and big thinking. If you are not sure if the MA or MSc is better for you, don’t worry, we will help you choose after you start.
Our User Experience Design (MA or MSc) programme will give you a solid foundation to develop the skills and knowledge needed for a career as a UX professional. You can also do this programme part-time – for more information about part-time study patterns, please contact us. Once you start the programme, it is possible to switch between (1) User Experience Design and (2) User Experience and Service Design if you decide the other programme suits you better. After the first few weeks, you will choose which award (MA or MSc) you wish to work towards. We will help you select the option that is best for you.
Our entry requirements are listed using standard UK undergraduate degree classifications i.e. first-class honours, upper second-class honours and lower second-class honours. To learn the equivalent for your country, please choose it from the drop-down below.
We will consider applicants from all academic backgrounds, not just design. You must have a genuine interest in new technologies and be comfortable working with data. Experience of software development/coding is not necessary. We value and promote diversity of all forms on our course. We are looking for applicants who can demonstrate a genuine desire to use new technologies to design better user experiences.
A 2:1 honours degree (or equivalent international qualification). We will consider students from a range of disciplines relevant to User Experience Design (including Art and Design, Computer Science, Media, Psychology, Business).
