Make history of your own. Specialise in the specific periods and historical themes that fascinate you, using your research skills creatively and independently. With your broad outlook, sharp pen and critical eye, you will be able to enter the job market in a wide range of sectors. The Master of History (60 ECTS) is a research-based master’s programme in which you can pursue your research collaboratively within four research groups: As a student you will automatically become part of the same research group as your supervisor. Each research group comes with a set of possible courses for you to take. Our one-year, research-intensive History programme at KU Leuven equips students with the advanced skills and specialised knowledge needed to develop into independent historians. It places strong emphasis on original source analysis and the critical interpretation of complex historical issues, supported by close guidance from a team of around twenty supervisors with expertise spanning all regions of the world. Their research specialisations cover a broad chronological range from the medieval period through the early modern era to contemporary history. The programme brings together expertise in world history, cultural history, religious history, socio-economic history, environmental and ecological history, and diplomatic history, offering students a uniquely wide intellectual framework.
