The programme's main focus is understanding how industrial and technology-based organisations create value for society and stakeholders through innovation, operations, leadership and business development. We address this issue at three different levels.
Students develop a detailed understanding of the three levels of value creation and their interrelation. The learning process throughout the programme is enhanced by the integrated design of mandatory courses, in which case assignments, problem-based learning, and industry interaction are central. The mandatory courses cover theoretical knowledge and skills related to managing key functions in industrial organisations. Furthermore, the individual and industrial levels of analysis enable students to address industrial challenges from a systems perspective. Through elective courses, a student can specialise in areas such as management, control, supply chain, project management, economics, and leadership.
The programme takes pride in having close contact and frequent interaction with industry leaders and their organisations. For example, all courses have guest lecturers from the industry. Moreover, interview assignments, study visits and industrial projects are core activities in the curriculum, preparing a student to take on leadership positions in industrial and technology-intensive organisations after completing the programme.[DL1] [NA2]
This is a two-year programme (120 ECTS credits) given in English. Graduates are awarded the degree of Master of Science. The programme is given mainly at KTH Campus in Stockholm by the School of Industrial Engineering and Management (at KTH).
Programme structure and progression
During the first year, you build a foundation in industrial management through a set of integrated mandatory courses covering finance and control, project management, operations and supply chain strategy, industrial marketing, industrial transformation, and leadership. Together, these courses develop an understanding of value creation from individual, organisational and industry-level perspectives.
In the second year, you deepen your knowledge through courses in research methods, managing research and innovation, and change management. A central component is the Change Project course, where you work with real organisational challenges in collaboration with industry partners. The programme concludes with a degree project carried out during the final semester, where you independently investigate a research question or industrial challenge. The degree project allows you to apply and integrate knowledge from across the programme in collaboration with academia or industry.
