Entry requirements for master's studies
To be eligible for a master's programme at KTH you must meet the admission requirements of your chosen programmes and submit the required documents in your application. The same process applies to students with a bachelor's degree from a Swedish university.
Admission requirements
Bachelor's degree
Academic qualifications from an internationally recognised university equivalent to a Swedish bachelor's degree.
You can meet the requirement if you are in the final year of your bachelor's studies. Students at universities abroad must submit documents according to the instructions from University Admissions . Students at Swedish universities must have completed 150 credits in their programme by 1 February per the instructions from KTH .
English proficiency
English proficiency equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6/English Level 2.
You can meet the requirement with an English test, for example an overall IELTS score of 6.5 or a TOEFL score of 4.5. Depending on your country of previous studies you could also meet the requirement through completed upper secondary or university studies. Visit University Admissions to see all recognised English tests and what applies to your country of previous studies.

Application documents
Your application is not complete without the required documents. Some documents are required for all programmes, while some are programme specific. You will find the documents required by each programme through the links below.
Selection criteria and process
All applicants who meet the requirements will have their merits rated on a scale of 1 to 75. The merit rating is done individually by each programme according to their set selection criteria. Usually, they will assess your previous education (including grades, quality of education, suitability for the programme and English proficiency) and motivation. The applicants with the highest merit ratings are admitted. You will find the selection criteria for each programme through the links below.
Acceptance rate
The average acceptance rate in the 2026 admission to our master's programmes was 31 %. The acceptance rate is based on the number of admitted students in relation to the number of applicants who met the admission requirements for a specific programme. The acceptance rates vary widely between the programmes and change every year depending on the number of qualified applicants and places in each programme.
Recognition of prior learning
Suppose you entirely or partially lack a formal requirement for a course or programme, but you believe you have the necessary knowledge to meet the requirement. In that case, you can apply for recognition of prior learning .
Find your programme
Delivered through InnoEnergy Masters+, this two-year, full-time programme comprises 120 ECTS credits and is taught in English. Students study at two universities in different European countries and, on successful completion, receive a master’s degree from each.
KTH Royal Institute of Technology normally hosts the first year, with studies in reactor technology, thermal-hydraulics, nuclear safety and fuels. Students then continue to a partner university in France, selecting a specialisation aligned with their interests, such as reactor engineering, plant design, operations, materials or the fuel cycle.
The programme culminates in a thesis undertaken with an industrial or research partner. Innovation and entrepreneurship education at Esade Business School complements technical study, helping students understand how engineering decisions connect with project development and the wider nuclear sector.
