MA Filmmaking (Cinematography) is designed for filmmakers who want to develop a distinctive visual voice while gaining professional-level technical expertise.
On this practice-led pathway, you will work as a cinematographer across a range of collaborative film productions, developing advanced skills in camera, lighting, and visual storytelling.
Through hands-on workshops, production projects and critical reflection, you’ll learn how to translate ideas, scripts and emotions into powerful cinematic images.
Based in London, you’ll study in purpose-built film and media facilities, working closely with directors, producers and editors on films that reflect contemporary cinematic practice and creative experimentation.
Goldsmiths has a long-standing reputation for creative risk-taking, critical thinking and interdisciplinary collaboration. As a cinematography student, you’ll benefit from an environment that encourages both technical excellence and artistic experimentation.
You’ll work on multiple productions throughout the year, gaining experience across different genres, formats and visual approaches. The course emphasises collaboration as it happens in the real world — cinematographers working closely with directors, producers and sound designers from development through to final delivery.
