  • For 2027/28 entry, this course requires English language Band 2 which is equivalent to IELTS Academic 6.5 with 6.0 in each component. See our English language requirements page for the accepted tests and qualifications, required results and exemptions. When applying, you will be expected to submit the following: One application form
  • A short personal statement (800-1200 words) outlining why you are applying for this programme, which should be specific to our course and institution, and not generic
  • A copy of your degree transcript: We require an original transcript or a copy certified by your institution. If you have not yet finished your course, please provide a provisional transcript of marks received to date. You will be required to send us your degree transcript as soon as it is available. You will not be able to register as a City student without having supplied your degree transcript.
  • Proof of English proficiency (unless you are a native English speaker or have completed your first degree in English).

Please note: Academic references are not required when you submit your application. However, the admissions tutor may request them at a later date to help make a decision on your application.

The Global Political Economy MA will help you broaden your understanding of the complex contemporary global economic system and its socio-political relationships. The course is designed for inquisitive students that want to develop a cutting-edge perspective on global economic and financial relations, inter-state competition, mechanisms of global governance and processes of transformation and change. You don't need any formal economics education for this course. Students come from a wide range of subject fields, including Politics, Law, Business Studies, Media Studies, the Humanities and more. From global inequality and tax evasion to financial regulation and financial crises, the expertise that you develop on this advanced MA will enable you to pursue a wide range of rewarding career options in the public and private sectors. The Global Political Economy MA will help you: Get an advanced specialist education in the field of global political economy. Develop your analytical skills and the ability to examine and critically evaluate the complex structure of relationships between markets, governments, transnational actors and networks in the setting of the globalising economy. Acquire an advanced conceptualisation of the problems of global capitalism in the 21st century. Critically examine rapid economic change and its socio-political roots in the contemporary world. Analyse and articulate your analysis of complex issues and debates to a high level.
